Nike Gets Sustainable With Its “Space Hippie” Collection By Transforming Scraps Into Sneakers

Combating climate change in the coolest way possible.

POSTED BY TEMWA NAMANDWA

With the fashion industry starting to work towards reducing their impact on the environment, Nike has joined in the race to tackle climate change and decrease their carbon footprint by releasing a “Space Hippie” collection that is made out of Nike’s own “space junk,” which sees scrap material from the factory floors transformed into cool designs.

The upper for the four sneaker selection utilizes “space Waste Yarn” that is made from 100% recycled yarn. Additionally, ZoomX and crater foam which are used to reduce virgin materials were formed to make the sole.

Nike went even further to reduce their carbon footprint by ensuring every detail of the packaging method of the “Space Hippie” collection was done with environmental considerations in mind.

Space Hippie 01, 01, 03 and 04 are slated to drop this spring on SNKRS and select retailers.
