Marc Jacobs Gets Nasty In Newest TikTok Video
Here’s how the brand is using TikTok to stand out.
TikTok is a unique landscape for brands to connect with millions of viewers. As such, there’s certain inside jokes and memes that only work within the world of the app. This is perfectly encapsulated in Marc Jacobs’ latest post on TikTok. They’ve called up two people who are the face of the funniest meme on the app right now, to dance for them in their designer clothes.
The Nasty Girl meme is an edit of two dancers dancing to the song ‘Nasty’ by singer Tinashe. In true meme fashion, it can and has been applied to a variety of situations from celebrating an upcoming birthday or concert to trying to convince your parents to buy you food. It’s quickly gained popularity in many anime, gaming and music fan spaces. Tinashe herself has even done the dance, using it to show how Nasty is the song of the summer.
Marc Jacobs worked with the two dancers seen in the video, Nate and Patience, to recreate the viral video while wearing their clothes. Patience appears to be wearing the Twisted fine wool dress in Fuschia, while Nate seems to wear the Grunge-spray effect tank top which fades from dark pink at the top to a lighter tone around the hem.
Just a few days before this latest video, Marc Jacobs worked with another TikTok creator, Amira Sori using a clip of someone getting soaked at a waterpark to then cut to Amira wearing Fine ribbed merino-wool tank-top, Denim patchwork mini skirt and the mini Sack Bag in white.
TikTok is a place where high fashion brands bank on viral moments to make sure their names remain in your head. This type of marketing wouldn’t work anywhere else.
