Molly Mae’s Pretty Little Thing Show Met By Protesters

Protesters advocating for better working conditions, fair wages and to fight against the waste that comes from fast fashion companies.

On February 16th Molly Mae staged her very first Pretty Little Thing fashion show but the event may not have been received in the way that she and her team had hoped. The show took place just days before London Fashion Week, which begins 18th February 2022, which I am sure was no accident. Although the event was not an official LFW event it was surely implied to be one with @OfficialPLT tweeting “LFW WE READY” on January 20th 2022.

The event itself has been quite overshadowed by what occurred outside of the show where a group of protesters gathered in an attempt to advocate for improved wages and to critique the negative impact that the fast fashion brand has on the environment. The signs made by protesters critiqued PLT and its parent company Boohoo for the salaries of those at the top of the company compared to that of their garment workers who are severely underpaid.

Amongst the protestors was fellow Love Islander Brett Staniland who enjoyed a short stint on Season 7 of the show. This was not Staniland’s first critique of the brand; he has also been vocal on social media about his thoughts on Pretty Little Thing, with one of his pinned videos on TikTok criticising PLT’s Black Friday sale for their ridiculously low prices and the environmental impacts of fast fashion.
