Miley Cyrus Is Back With New Track ‘Midnight Sky’
We see an uprising of strong, independent women on the horizon.
Taking inspiration from the likes of Stevie Nicks, Joan Jett, and Debbie Harry, Miley Cyrus has ended her musical hiatus with new track ‘Midnight Sky,’ a hit that is as equally powerful as it is daring. Serving serious attitude, Miley sings — or rather belts — the lyrics, “Fire in my lungs, can't bite the devil on my tongue, oh no I don't need to be loved by you,” demonstrating her raspy, vocal range.
‘Midnight Sky’ is in many ways a breakup anthem, one which follows the recent split between Miley and her boyfriend, Cody Simpson. Whilst many believe the song is about him, or Liam Hemsworth, Miley hasn’t risen to speculation to confirm or deny such theories. All we know for sure is that she just keeps getting better. ‘Midnight Sky’ has shown us she’s unapologetic, “I don’t need to be loved by you,” self-aware, “see my lips on her mouth, everybody's talkin' now,” and wants you to know that she isn’t going to change anytime soon…
In an interview with the Zach Sang Show, Miley Cyrus describes ‘Midnight Sky’ as “a reflection of everyone kind of having this personal kind of woke moment, I feel like a lot of us are waking up.” A powerful sentiment that we love to hear.
The music video for ‘Midnight Sky,’ directed by Miley herself, is bold, rebellious, and very, very, late 70’s glam. Think bright neon lights, disco balls, Chanel, and lots of sparkles. The video is a work of art in itself…as is that mullet, UGH!
