BENEE’s Success With New Bop ‘Snail’ Is Anything But Slow
Get it? Slow...?
Labeled by Spotify as “2020’s breakout indie-pop phenomenon,” New Zealand singer-songwriter BENEE is back with another track that Ones To Watch believe “may just be BENEE's best piece of pop-flavored escapism to date.”
The artist’s latest release ‘Snail’ — as the title would suggest — is quite literally a song about snails, inspired by BENEE’s fascination with the small creatures. In a statement about the track, BENEE admits, “when we were in lockdown, I was fascinated by snails (...) I just played around with the idea of being kind of like a snail and how I come out in the rain.”
BENEE describes the recent single as her ‘lockdown anthem,’ a result of the interests and feelings she developed over her period of isolation. And honestly, the lyrics are pretty relatable... “As I wake, down goes day. Out comes night, look alive.”
It must be said, lockdown had us feeling rather sluggish ourselves...but snail metaphors work too.
