Mean Girls Sequel Halts Over “Disrespectful” Pay Offer
I don’t think the inventor of Toaster Strudel would be too pleased to hear about this.
The Platistics might not make their return to North Shore High any time soon. The rumored Mean Girls rival is currently stalled over contract negotiations, reportedly after the 2004 film's four stars, Lindsey Lohan, Rachel McAdams, Lacey Chabert, and Amanda Seyfried, all agreed to return. Inside sources told Page Six, "all four girls were willing to come back, but Paramount has not been respectful of what they are worth."
Tina Fey, credited for both the teen classic film and Broadway musical, would return as self-deprecating teacher and mathletes coach Ms. Norbury. In addition, wacky but well-meaning Principal Duvall would make an appearance, with comedian Tim Meadows reprising his role. Fey was reportedly offered a seven-figure deal as a writer and producer, while the rest of the cast was offered a "fraction" of her pay.
It's unclear exactly what kind of role Lohan and her cast mates would have in the movie sequel. "Whether they appear in a cameo appearance or they have six pages of script, it doesn't matter — [the money offered] is disrespectful," the source said.
For those who've never watched this cinema classic, Mean Girls follows home-schooled student Cady (Lindsey Lohan) as she falls into her new school's "teen royalty," a clad of pink-wearing, mini-skirted mean girls known as "The Plastics." Worshiped for its quotability, the 19-year-old comedy still has fans wearing pink on Wednesday.
In the wake of the rumored drama, Mean Girls' Amanda Seyfried let us know casting could've looked very different. Blake Lively of Gossip Girl fame could've been our beloved-ditsy Karen Smith, the actress spilled in an interview with Vanity Fair.
Come on, Paramount, not paying the cast what they deserve would be so not fetch!
