Lyves’ Newest Single Puts The Rest Of The Music Industry To Shame

And her EP is coming soon!

POSTED BY MEREDITH LABUDA

With her sophomore EP just around the corner, singer, songwriter, and producer Lyves has released another single! Entitled “Shame”, this track is one of her more unique offerings. It combines a multitude of musical elements, from drums to pianos, saxophones, guitar riffs, voice overs, and amazing vocalizations. “Shame” is one of Lyves’ most daring songs yet.

Lyves has been known to write and produce her own music. But for “Shame”, she teamed up with fellow musician and producer, Dave Okumu, who has worked with the likes of Adele and Amy Winehouse. Lyves wrote “Shame” during a late-night studio session after finding the drum sample. She felt that the beat matched her mood, and she wanted to write something “...raw and unfiltered and somewhat chaotic…”. And it was indeed unfiltered, as the final version of “Shame” includes takes from that very first night.

Lyves really shows off her skills in this song, including practically every instrument imaginable to create a combination of breakbeat, future garage, ‘80s soul, and psychedelic rock. Not only does the music take listeners on a rollercoaster ride, but so do the lyrics. Lyves songs about opening up in a relationship, about being fearful to let someone see the dark parts of yourself. And Lyves’ vocals are so incredibly powerful, she carries deep emotion and soul as she hits notes that many artists could only dream of singing.

This song gives fans a sneak peek into Lyves’ new EP, which is coming out November. Lyves has already released two other songs from her EP, “How It Would Feel”, and the title track,
“Change”. The EP is slated to have a soulful yet alternative R&B sound.

You can follow Lyves on Instagram to keep up with her music and listen to her new single, “Shame”, on Apple MusicSpotify, and YouTube.
