Singer-songwriter Luna Shadows dropped her latest single, “nudes,” a resonant and ethereal track that delves into the complexities of infatuation and insecurity at the heart of new romance. With its shadowy depths and calculated desperation, “nudes” rises to capture the bittersweet struggle between longing and restraint. The song’s rippling synths, muted percussion, and fluid lyricism create a poignant narrative of an emotionally translucent partner who is present but unavailable.
Luna Shadows elaborates on the theme of her new track, explaining, “‘nudes’ is about the early days of infatuation and the confrontational memories that come along with new romance. The song reflects on coping with the jealousy that can appear when new romantic partners mix their memories and past experiences. Feeling poisoned by the knowledge of everyone else that came before you, ruminating to the point of unhealthy obsession—and all the while, fantasizing about being the ‘one and only,’ fixating on being ‘the best.’”
Accompanying the release is a minimalist music video directed by Luna Shadows with cinematography by Haley Min Young Kreofsky. Shot in the desert landscape of Sky Valley, California, the video visually echoes the song’s themes. Luna shares, "The desert is a place where almost nothing can survive—hostile, uninhabitable—and yet, also beautiful. There is a conceptual connection there to the song's meaning. Living in an uninhabitable mental state, romanticizing it, taking in the view."
