LOVRA: “Djing Is About Creating A Journey In Real Time”

Nostalgic beats, raw energy, and a deep connection with the crowd — LOVRA brings it all.

What happens when nostalgic sounds of the ’90s and 2000s blend with modern melodies, danceable house beats, striking vocals, and grooving, rolling basslines? No need to imagine — just press play on a DJ LOVRA track. Her sound is exactly that: a vibrant fusion of past and present, skillfully crafted to move the body.

LOVRA is no newcomer to the German electronic scene — with nearly a decade of artistic activity behind her, she’s established herself as one of its influential voices. This year marked another major milestone in her career: a performance at the world-renowned Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival. In an exclusive interview with Fizzy Mag, LOVRA opens up about playing the iconic festival, shaping her signature sound, and what makes Berlin’s club culture truly one of a kind.

To start things off — LOVRA, can you tell us about the moment it all clicked? When did you first feel that DJing could become more than just a passion?

During my studies in communication design and art, I started a YouTube music channel where I featured Deep House tracks. I curated and promoted a lot of up—and—coming artists from SoundCloud, and it really took off — it actually became one of the biggest music channels of that time. At some point, I realized I had a good ear for music, so I decided to start releasing my own stuff.

The turning point was when two of my tracks on SoundCloud went viral — back then people used to call it a ‘SoundCloud miracle’ because they blew up overnight. One was a remake of Marvin Gaye’s Let’s Get It On, and the other was my own track called Love Sensation. Once those gained traction, promoters started reaching out to me on Facebook to book gigs. That’s how it all slowly started.

Then booking agencies and management teams began contacting me, wanting to collaborate. At that time, it was still quite rare to see female DJs in the house scene, so there was definitely a unique edge to it. Gig by gig, things started picking up — and eventually I just decided to go all in, take the leap, and fully commit to turning my passion into a career.

You’re drawn to the sound of the '90s and 2000s — what attracts you to it most, and how do you adapt it to today’s scene?

I just love the vibe of the ’90s and 2000s. Back then, every track was a sing-along hit — the music had this raw energy and emotional depth that really stuck with you. It wasn’t just about the beat, it was about the feeling, the memories, the community around it. I connect with that era on every level, and it heavily inspires my own sound. Through my music, I want to bring that same feeling back — that mix of nostalgia, fun, and pure joy. For me, it’s all about creating a space where people can let go, dance, and just feel the love.

How do you find the balance between nostalgia and a contemporary sound when working on new tracks?

I take a lot of inspiration from the countries I get to play in. Touring internationally gives me the chance to listen to other DJs and really get a feel for how music is experienced around the world. I especially love drawing influence from the US and UK scenes — my sound has always had a strong American and British edge to it. There’s just something about the energy, the groove, and the attitude in those places that really speaks to me. I soak all of that in and let it flow into my own sets and productions. Every crowd, every city brings a different kind of energy, and I think that keeps me evolving as an artist. It’s not about copying trends — it’s about understanding what moves people and shaping that into something that feels authentic to me.

When did you feel that you had truly found your own sound — and how has it evolved over time?

I’ve always had a deep passion for the tech house genre. During the COVID period, I made the decision to fully commit to it and follow that path without looking back. Switching genres is never easy, but honestly, it was the best decision I’ve ever made. I connect with this sound like no other — it moves me on every level. And the beautiful part is, I can feel that same energy from the crowd. We connect, we vibe, and during my sets, it feels like we become one. It’s truly one of the most powerful and magical feelings I know. Tech house gives me the freedom to express both intensity and groove — it’s raw, it’s hypnotic, and it keeps evolving. I love pushing boundaries within the genre while still staying true to that underground feel. That balance is what makes it so exciting for me as an artist.

Recently, you represented the German electronic scene at Coachella. What does that mean to you?

I’m incredibly proud to have represented Germany at Coachella! It was an absolutely surreal feeling — one of those moments you dream about as an artist. Stepping onto that stage and knowing where I come from made it even more special. The energy was unreal, and the crowd’s vibe was next level. It felt like all the years of hard work and dedication had led to that very moment. Being part of such an iconic festival gave me a huge creative boost and reminded me why I love doing this so much.

What kind of music did you choose to include in your Coachella set — and why?

I went for a groovy tech house and house vibe. I followed the energy and flow of the crowd — that’s how I shape every set I play. I read the room, feel the people, and let that guide my track selection. For me, DJing isn’t about sticking to a playlist, it’s about creating a journey in real time. Telling a story. When the connection with the crowd is right, the set becomes something organic — we build the moment together. This is magical.

Being based in Berlin, you’re deeply immersed in one of the world’s most iconic club cultures. How does it compare to other scenes you’ve experienced globally?

The Berlin club scene is truly unique — many clubs are open 24/7, there’s a no-phone policy, and it’s not always about having a big-name DJ on the lineup. The clubs are underground, dark, sometimes even kinky, and that’s exactly what makes the vibe so raw and authentic. Berlin is famous for these kinds of parties — it doesn’t matter where you’re from or what you do, all that matters is that you feel the music and celebrate together. You’re in the moment.

It’s this sense of freedom, openness, and pure connection that makes the scene so special. You can completely lose yourself in the moment, and that’s why people travel from all over the world to experience it. It’s not just nightlife — it’s culture, expression, and a feeling you won’t find anywhere else.

What advice would you give to young DJs who want to start their path in club culture?

My advice is: stay true to yourself, know your sound, and don’t get too caught up in what everyone else is doing. Surround yourself with people who believe in you — but above all, believe in yourself! Be your own biggest fan, dream big, and set clear goals.

That inner confidence and self-belief will carry you through the ups and downs.

Also, don’t be afraid to put your work out there — upload your sets to SoundCloud so people can discover you and instantly get a feel for your vibe. It’s all about showing the world who you are through your music. Every journey starts somewhere, and consistency is key. If you’re passionate, persistent, and authentic, the right people will find you.

The beginning is never easy in the music scene — it takes time, patience, and a lot of resilience. There are always setbacks and doubts, but every low teaches you something and eventually leads to a new high. All those moments, even the tough ones, have shaped my journey in a positive way. Step by step, you grow, evolve, and get closer to your vision. Trust the process — it’s all part of the story.
