Introducing sustainable packaging has been at the top of the list for a number of industries over the last decade or so. With plastic bag bans and fines, greater pressure on food packaging waste, and now the U.S. Plastics Pact, it seems that steps are finally being made to save the turtles from choking on our waste.

The beauty industry has relied heavily on plastic packaging, however, with L’Oréal joining the pact, with more than 60 other countries, maybe other brands will be inspired to follow suit.

Led by The Recycling Partnership and World Wildlife Fund, the U.S. Plastics Pact aims to change the approach to plastic through redesign and usage. By signing the pact, L’Oréal is committing to completely eliminating its unnecessary plastic packaging by 2025, while also ensuring any plastic that is used is 100% sustainable through reusing, recycling or composting.

This comes shortly after L’Oréal announced ‘L’Oréal for the Future’ – an initiative of sustainability goals set for 2030.

“L’Oréal is committed to doing our part to protect the planet from the global climate crisis we are facing, and we are transforming our business to do so,” said L’Oréal USA’s head of corporate social responsibility and sustainability, Danielle Azoulay. “We are proud to be part of the U.S. Plastics Pact and join over 60 organizations in working together toward system-wide change toward a circular economy for plastic in the United States.”
