Lorde Releases New Single 'Mood Ring'
It is the third single to be released off her upcoming album 'Solar Power'
Lorde has released Mood Ring, a satirical commentary on wellness culture.
Mood Ring is the third single to be released off Lorde’s imminent album Solar Power that is due to be released on August 20th. The track follows the mellow aura that previous singles, Stoned at the Nail Salon and Solar Power, exuded.
Mood Ring feels dreamy, angelic backing vocals courtesy of Clairo and Phoebe Bridgers introduce the melodic acoustic guitar. The track discusses the rise in interest in activities such as burning sage, reading tarot cards and taking vitamins. In a statement Lorde spoke on the single saying that she “wanted to understand commune life, dropping out from society and trying to start again.” She went on to say, “One thing that occurred to me as a major parallel between that time and our time is our wellness culture and our culture of spirituality.”
Lorde also dropped a music video to accompany the track. Co-directed by herself and Joel Kefali, the video shows a blonde-haired Lorde in an airy tent with a group of girls wearing sage silk dresses. The feeling of a community is prevalent within the video, with Lorde furthering the commentary on wellness culture.
Lorde’s third album, Solar Power, is due to be released August 20th.
