LOEWE and Studio Ghibli Release ‘Spirited Away’ Collection
Featuring colorful graphics of Chihiro, Kaonashi, and Susuwatari
In collaboration with Japan-based Studio Ghibli, LOEWE has released its enchanted and mystical collection based on the hit movie, Spirited Away. Under the creative direction of Jonathan Anderson, the collection features ready-to-wear apparel, handbags, and accessories that are decorated with Spirited Away motifs. Colorful graphics of Chihiro, Kaonashi, and Susuwatari celebrate the artistic and emotional craft of the film’s animation director Hayao Miyazaki.
LOEWE artisans utilized signature practices to bring the designs to life, including intarsia, embroidery, and boro – a traditional Japanese patchwork technique. “The collection looks at different types of craft and we’ve applied it to everything from the blankets to the way in which the embroideries have been done—it’s about having fun with the narratives of the film,” describes Anderson. “My favorite pieces are the Hammock bag with Chihiro’s face in 360 embroidery all over, and the hand-knitted crewneck sweater with the Yu-bird and Bô intarsia motif—it’s a mix of lurex embroidery with 3D crochet technique on the wool ball, which emphasizes the craft—a big signature of LOEWE.”
The campaign was shot by fashion photographer Juergen Teller and modelled by Mica Argañaraz, Dua Saleh, and Hyunji Shin.
