Lizzo On Fame's Toll: "It Gets Really Weird" With Friends

Choosing wealth over fame, and her health journey.

In a recent interview with Ziwe, Lizzo opened up about how fame has strained her personal relationships. “I used to have so many friends, but when you get famous, it gets really weird,” she shared. According to her, fame creates emotional distance as people treat her differently, leading to feelings of isolation. “Everything around you changes. It’s heartbreaking,” she added, offering a raw take on how success can erode authentic connection.

On Choosing Wealth Over Fame

Lizzo had a clear message for her fans: be rich, not famous. She stressed that fame isn’t something to chase, noting that “rich and famous are not the same thing.” While she encouraged artists to create and share their work, she warned about the permanence of fame. “You can’t leave. It never ends,” she said, alluding to how public attention can become a burden rather than a reward.

Weight Loss Journey and Food Awareness

Since 2023, Lizzo has been on a health journey, achieving a 16% reduction in body fat and lowering her BMI by over 10 points by early 2025. Her approach was rooted in mental well-being more than appearance. She made small, sustainable changes—like swapping sugary morning drinks for more balanced meals—to help her feel better mentally and physically.

Counting Calories and Caution

Despite her success, Lizzo remains cautious about calorie tracking, saying, “We rebel against counting calories because it is a gateway to eating disorders.” She advocates for self-awareness over strict diets, encouraging people to find what works for their individual bodies. Her focus is on mental peace, not numbers on a scale, reinforcing her ongoing commitment to body neutrality and holistic health.
