Kamala For President? What Women Should Expect

Kamala Harris is favored to run for president in this year's election, here's what that may mean for women.

Women's rights have become a vital issue in America with Roe vs Wade being revoked triggering a worldwide discussion on reproductive rights. Of course, this affects more than just women; the overwhelming majority is female. Not only that but the fight against sexual assault (which again overwhelmingly affects women) has been slow going, with Kamala Harris' opposition being a convicted sexual abuser.

You'll be glad to know that she has plans. She is outspoken and far more progressive than the democratic party has been in the last four years. She is taking on the topic of abortion head-on with the stars to back her up and has been at least as far back as 2018.

With the decrease in available abortions, there has been an increase in stillborns, early infant death, and severe mental health problems in women. After Biden's cabinet allowed Roe vs Wade to be overturned voters care about a more proactive president who is acting to protect their rights.

A less obvious issue that affects women in America is healthcare. Every year women pay more for healthcare than men, this cannot even be attributed to maternity costs as the gap persists when those expenses persist. Combating that is a complex issue that Kamala has targeted with consistent backing of Medicare. The simplest way of combating inequality is to remove the issue.

One thing we will get from Kamala that we've never gotten from any President is an intersectional view. The strongest feminist is an intersectional feminist because they stand for all women. Having a black woman in office means more minority groups will be represented and spoken for. She has made statements regarding how so many feminist issues affect women of color more than anyone, and will hopefully advocate for them in a way that's never been done before.
