JW Anderson’s Dual Collection Reveal

SS22 celebrates dressing for yourself.

POSTED BY ERIN DEVINE

JW Anderson combined the launch of his spring/summer 2022 men’s and resort 2022 womenswear collections with a series of images shot by Juergen Teller. “It’s just about kids having fun,” Jonathan Anderson said of the collection: “This season we have focused on the idea of, nearly in the bedroom. The kind of glorification of being who you are or what you want to be, the idea of privacy of the individual."

The collection is an ode to adolescence and celebrates all things youthful and free. Anderson explained in a preview, “I was trying to think of myself at university, and when you leave home and discover yourself, you have no parameters of what is good or bad on you, in terms of clothing."

The campaign also gives a sense of nostalgia, with images from the collection in school portrait-style frames. Speaking on the images, Anderson said, “I like this idea of creating something which felt a bit like going back to school." However, the designs are far from uniform. The collection hosts bold and uplifting colors with 'juvenile' styling, according to the show notes.

The designs draw on similar themes with the women’s resort 2022 collection showcasing vibrant pink, yellow and blue colors on playful dresses, as well as a series of stipe, daisy and swirl motifs.  The men’s SS22 also arrived in bright green, red and blue shades with large strawberry prints. The designs are masculine but adolescent, featuring crewnecks, running shorts, hoodies and zip-up tracksuits.

As for the accessories, there was JWA-monogrammed socks and sandals, as well as a glimpse of the designer’s future sunglasses collaboration with Persol which is set to release next summer. Hopefully, by then, we’ll have somewhere other than our bedrooms to wear them.
