JLo Closes Versace Show in Milan In That Dress And Breaks The Internet Again
In the jungle, the mighty jungle.
Once upon a time in the year 2000, JLo wore an unassuming ‘Jungle Print’ Versace dress to the Grammy Awards and no one ever thought twice about it…Except the dress was anything but unassuming and everyone thought twice, thrice and four times (quadrice?) about it. People thought about that dress so much and, searched for it so much that Google decided to create Google Images so that people could find pictures of the dress online.
Fast-forward to Milan Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2020 and the Versace show is in full swing. The last couple of models walk the runway to JLo’s ‘Love Don’t Cost A Thing’; a hint that something was brewing. Dresses, blazers, suits and miniskirts with the jungle print swarmed the runway before Amber Valetta, the final model walked in a stunning, high-thigh slit black dress. Amber Valetta was the model that originally walked in the ‘Jungle Print’ dress at Versace’s Spring/Summer 2000 show. Major déjà vu.
Then, came the final presentation: a projection of millions of Google searches for the ‘Jungle print’ dress appeared on the walls, followed by a Smart-Speaker voice that said, “OK Google. Now show me the real dress.” The crowd got excited, and out came JLo to storm the runway.
The ‘Jungle Print’ dress was updated by losing its sleeves and adding embellishment at the belly button, as a perfect ode to the year 2000 when luxury was peaking. The year itself was the inspiration behind Versace’s Spring/Summer 2020 collection. The show not only brought back the jungle accents and prints in neon green and fuchsia, but introduced a multitude of layers, revived brooches and embellished waists, as well as fusing structured ‘80s shoulders on business blazers and mini club dresses alike.
While 20 years ago social media was not even a thing, since the show the videos of JLo walking the runway have been viewed more than 2 million times on socials. JLo makes fashion history again, but not only that, she breaks the Internet for a second time. You win Versace, you win.
