ITO Experience: A Dive into Uncharted Dreamscapes
Embark on a thrilling journey as you step into Kühlhaus, guided through unknown dream worlds by video installations, visual arts, electronic sounds, and delights at the bar. The staging of the entrance ritual is an integral part of the festival concept. Video installations in the basement, curated by digital artist Christopher Hönninger, complement the transformation of Kühlhaus Berlin into a unique and spectacular backdrop every day through videomapping, courtesy of artist Francois Schwamborn, in the style of the "Festival of Lights."
A Diverse Lineup: From Icons to Underground Pioneers
In January 2024, the second edition of Into the Open – Music Festival in Berlin presents an exciting program featuring six concerts that bring together major institutions and names such as Martina Gedeck, the Barenboim-Said Academy, the vision string quartet, and the Staatsoper Berlin collaborating with representatives of the "Free Scene," including underground icon Ion Ludwig and street-style dancer Tamisha A. Guy from New York City. European influences from Lithuania, France, and Georgia, along with two world premieres of compositions specially written for the festival, further emphasize the interdisciplinary character of Into the Open.
New Commissions: A Fusion of Cultures and Genres
For the 2024 season, Into the Open awards two commissioned compositions to French composer Samir Amarouch and Chinese composer Ying Wang. Amarouch's "Mouvement" is an interdisciplinary piece for soprano saxophone, electric guitar, microtonal accordion, and three dancers, offering a reflection on perception, form, and time. Ying Wang presents "Double Wings," an audiovisual concept for two identical instruments and two video projections. Collaborating with DJ and producer Ion Ludwig and the Stegreif - Improvising Orchestra, an electroacoustic performance project inspired by 1950s-60s Drone Music is also in the works.
