Inspiration? Or Blatant Copyright?

Elle Fanning’s 2024 Balmain Met Gala look is suspiciously similar to the work of Tama Fuchs.

The Met Gala 2024 has shown us some incredible works of fashion and Elle Fannings Balmain's dress is no exception, its unique transparent material made her appear to be a statue carved from ice.

The "flying" birds on her shoulders nodded to her likeness to Snow White and perfectly captured the "Garden of Time" theme by replicating a sleeping beauty. However, the eye-catching birds have caused many to compare its similarities to a dress by Tama Fuchs which also featured birds appearing to hold up a transparent drape style dress, in an Instagram post she urges major fashion houses not to steal upcoming designers' ideas and instead connect with aspiring artists to give them the platform and space to be noticed "it's disheartening to see big designers trample on the creativity of young designers, we're tired of this cycle"

Many argue that sharing your designs gives anyone the right to take advantage and use them themselves. Still, I think when the comparison is this obvious it's hard to ignore how unfair and upsetting it can be to a new creative who if given the opportunity would have been able to grow their whole career.
