Iconic Press Tour Duos

How iconic celeb pairings reach audiences past the credits

POSTED BY FRANCESCA MONTEIRO

Press tours have become far more than just promo – through unscripted chaos and iconic looks, celebrities have perfected the formula for forming connections that stay with us far beyond the movie. These pairings have offered up the press-tour-performance of a lifetime over the past year.

Robert Pattinson and Zendaya

Starting off strong with show-stopping Zendaya and Robert Pattinson, whose candid friendship has drawn in audiences well before the premiere of their new film, “The Drama” (3 April). Both have built unimaginably strong fanbases, yet share an unlikely humility, making them instantly likeable.

Weddings have been neatly pulled into every aspect of the tour, reflective of the film’s themes. Their interviews have sprinkled in questions of marriage and commitment, but Zendaya’s outfits were the stylistic cherry on the cake – “something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue.” While undoubtedly promoting their new romantic thriller, their tour also sparked further probing into Zendaya’s newly rumoured secret marriage to Tom Holland.

Together, Pattinson and Zendaya channel a charmingly awkward and wholly millennial energy that few celebrities can replicate.

Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande

Next up, Elphaba and Glinda. Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo are arguably the most notable duo of the past few years, with the promotion of both Wicked films. The two caught musical theatre fans by storm with their talent, wit and perfectly coordinated wardrobe.

Erivo and Grande caused particular chaos after a few concerns for their mental health. Many read their constant tears as a warning sign of sinister management behind the scenes. While the emotion resonating from their interviews threw the internet somewhat off guard, there’s no denying the pure connection and chemistry between them. Whether genuine, performative, or heartwarming, Erivo and Grande complemented each other on and off-screen. This renders their press tour one of the most unforgettable of the decade.

Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway

Few duos can live up to the cultural legacy of Anne Hathaway and Meryl Streep. The anticipation for The Devil Wears Prada sequel (release date 1 May) is unmatched, stirring up nostalgia across generations. They have delivered nothing but theatrics and class in the past month, appearing on the red carpet at the Oscars and travelling across the globe to South Korea and Mexico.

As the two slowly reunite with the original cast, their iconic visuals are promising new depths of revolutionary cinema next month. Their dynamic is one of enormous mutual respect, as two of the most celebrated rom-com actresses in fashion history. This reunion reminds us all that cinematic icons will never lose their shine.
