Henrik Vibskov Wears His Art On His Sleeve
Henrik Vibskov’s SS16 collection is a vivid print splash on a canvas of oversized and tailored pieces, fit to burst at the seams with quirky detailing; and what else would you expect from a designer who’s work is just as familiar with the inside of the world’s top galleries, as it is the runways of fashion weeks around the globe?
This wearable Warholian has been working it since his graduation from Central Saint Martins in 2001; creating a “universe” around his work that extends beyond the reaches of the runway; from the halls of Palais de Tokyo in Paris – and, he’s the only Scandinavian designer to be on the official show schedule at Paris Mens Fashion Week – to drumming with his band Mountain Yorokobu, and collaborating with visual artist, Andreas Emenius, on ‘The Circular Series’ (described as the “visual glue” that threads ideas between his designs), Vibskov has constructed his own factory of fun, with his back catalog of twenty-six collections (and counting) at the heart of it.
Vibskov’s SS16 reflects the season’s widely adopted trip into the oversized, smart-casual, urban landscape, but with his own organic, out there oeuvre to keep things interesting. Cropped flares might be, well, cropping up everywhere, but if they’re Henrik Vibskov’s, you can bet they’ll be enough intricate hand drawn style print effects and street art inspired graphics, to tempt a kooky style loving’ crowd into a full-on buy-it-all spring fashion fling. Art smarts with a pop culture kick.
