Health Checks Men Should Be Aware Of
Staying on top of your overall health and wellbeing.
Just as there are particular health checks that women should do, men too have particular health concerns which require specific checks from time to time. The statistics do however show that men are significantly less likely to keep on top of these kinds of things, and that is something that needs to change. In this post, we are going to take a look at some of the specific health checks that men need to have undertaken every once in a while, to help keep on top of their overall health and wellbeing.
Testicles
First of all, something all men should do is make sure that they are checking their testicles from time to time. Ideally, this check should be carried out once a month, and it is something that can easily be done by the man himself at home.
The easiest way to do it is during a shower, and it is simply a case of gently yet firmly checking each testicle for any lumps which seem aberrant or unusual, especially any that are big, regardless of whether or not they cause pain to touch. If anything is found, he should go to the doctor to have the testicles checked out thoroughly.
Prostate
Prostate cancer is the number one most commonly diagnosed cancer in men, so it is something that men should be sure to keep on top of as best as they can. Again, it’s a regular check that needs to be carried out, but this time by a professional doctor.
Going for the occasional check with a doctor such as Dr Paul Manohar will help to ensure that there is nothing wrong with the prostate. Prostate cancer is deadly, so it is really important to do this, and to be aware of the symptoms of prostate cancer more generally: frequent urination, blood in the urine or semen, and erectile dysfunction to name a few.
Heart
Of course, this is not unique to men, but it is the case that more men than women have severe heart problems, and it’s something that middle-aged men and upwards should pay attention to.
Keeping an eye on one’s blood pressure at home is easier than ever, and should be considered an essential process to undergo. Occasionally, it is also a good idea to have your heart checked out thoroughly by a medical professional. Looking after the ticker will help to keep one living as long as possible.
Head
Finally, there is the issue of mental health. With suicide being the biggest cause of death amongst men under 40, this is a considerable problem that needs dealing with as best as we can as a society.
For individual men, this means getting help and speaking out when they need to - suffering in silence is never going to make it better, and will almost always make it worse. If you are keen to support the man in your life, try to speak with them and encourage them to seek help if they need it.
