Health Checks that Every Woman Should Schedule In

We all want to keep on top of our health and wellbeing. We want to be in good condition. We want to feel well. Now, there are multiple things you can do to achieve this as best as you can. You can eat a balanced diet. As a woman, it’s recommended that you consume around 2000 calories a day and you get a healthy balance of all your food groups, recommended vitamins, minerals, and other necessary nutrients.

You can also reach your recommended levels of fitness. For the average woman, one hundred and fifty minutes of moderate aerobic exercise, or seventy-five minutes of vigorous aerobic exercise, is recommended per week. These are the basic standards. But many people forget that you also need to regularly check in with medical and healthcare professionals to monitor your health too. Sure, you might go to the dentist once every six months. You might check-in for your eye exam once every two years. But there are some health checks that are specific to women that you might want to have carried out too.

Here are some to consider:

Cervical Screening

Cervical screening is perhaps the first appointment you should consider scheduling in. You may also hear this process referred to as a “smear test” or a “pap smear”. If you’re aged 25 or over, you should book in for a cervical screening with your doctor. Anyone aged between 25 and 44 will be asked to re-attend for another screening once every three years. Anyone aged between 45 and 60 will be asked to re-attend once every five years. When you have cervical screening carried out, the aim is to take a look at cellular material in your cervix (the entrance or “barrier” between your womb and your vagina. Any irregularities that may be found in this cellular material could be a warning sign or symptom of cancer or cancerous cells. This is why cervical screening is so important!

 

Breast Screening

Breast cancer is unfortunately relatively common. But the good news is that the sooner it is identified, the sooner you can seek treatment and reduce your chances of further illness or fatality. If you do notice any changes to your breasts, lumps or bumps, you can seek out help from a doctor. They will likely carry out a “mammogram”, which is a form of X-Ray. This mammogram can identify developing cancers before they are large enough to see or feel. You can also book in for a mammogram if you are between the ages of fifty and seventy as a routine check.

 

TVUS and CA-125 Tests

Nobody wants to think about ovarian cancer. However, it is a condition that proves dangerous and even fatal for many women. If you feel concerned that you may be suffering from ovarian cancer, you should contact your doctor and request TVUS and CA-125 tests. TVUS stands for a transvaginal ultrasound. This test uses sound waves to create an image of your internal parts. A CA-125 test measures the amount of CA-125 protein in your blood. This tends to be elevated if there are problems present.

 

A Gynaecological Exam
