Halsey's Art Auction To Go Towards Abortion Funds
The singer is donating paintings from their live performances to benefit abortion funds.
Halsey is auctioning off the artwork from her Love and Power Tour with all the proceeds going towards the National Network of Abortion Funds.
The singer and songwriter created a series of paintings live during their performances. Five paintings are now up for auction at Sotheby’s Contemporary Discoveries. The auction began July 8 and is set to conclude July 19.
All pieces are available to view at Sotheby’s location in New York but are also up for bid online. According to Sotheby’s website, the bids started at $5,000 with an estimate of reaching $7,000. The current bids range from $5,500 to $6,500.
The five paintings up for auction were created at recent shows in Gulf Shores, Alabama, Nashville, Detroit, Boston, and Portland, Oregon. The singer spoke out after the overturning of Roe v. Wade.
Halsey shared in an essay with Vogue Magazine that they had miscarried three times before her 24th birthday. They went on to share how one of her miscarriages required an abortion, because their body could go into sepsis without medical intervention.
“Many people have asked me if, since carrying a child to term after years of struggling to do so, I have reconsidered my stance on abortion,” Halsey wrote. “The answer is firmly no. In fact, I have never felt more strongly about it. Every person deserves the right to choose when, if, and how they have this dangerous and life-altering experience. I will hold my son in one arm, and fight with all my might with the other.”
