Gird Your Loins, It’s The Devil Wears Prada Musical

“Oh I’m sorry, do you have some prior commitment? Some hideous skirt convention you have to go to?”

Our prayers have been answered. Praise Dolce & Gabbana. (Can YOU spell Gabbana?)

It’s true, Devil Wears Prada The Musical is coming to the James M. Nederlander Theatre in Chicago next year. Elton John had long-ago promised us that a musical was in the works and now, it is finally happening. With direction by Anna D. Shapiro, a book by Paul Rudnick, music supervision from Nadia DiGiallonardo, and of course, music from Sir Elton John himself, the musical is shaping up to be a must-see.

Based on Lauren Weisberger’s brilliant 2003 novel, the movie has become a cult-classic and quite possibly our favorite movie to quote. “By all means move at a glacial pace, you know how that thrills me…” Now, the story of outsider Andy Sachs’ struggle to adapt to the fashion industry at Runway magazine, will be coming to us live…and with catchy musical numbers no doubt. Somehow, amidst Elton’s three-year farewell tour he managed to squeeze in some quick musical genius and curated a whole soundtrack for the brand-new musical. No biggie!

Although the cast is yet to be revealed, tickets will be available starting October 6th. The musical is also rumored to hit London’s West End in 2021. (THAT? I CAN’T EVEN TALK ABOUT.) We only hope that whoever is lucky enough to covet the role of our Queen of Put-Downs Miranda Priestley, is up to the challenge. That’s all.
