Gentle Monster are exploring futurism and transcendence in their newest ‘BOLD’ drop, an extension of ‘Galaxy Of 9 Evenings’. The South Korean eyewear brand was founded in 2011 by Hankook Kim, producing experimental spatial designs and immersive experiences within fashion. Subverting hallmarks and traditions of eyewear is a huge part of the brand's identity, and ‘BOLD’ is a series that stays true to this ethos.

This drop in the ‘BOLD’ series, which will be annually released, is inspired by the 1966 performance art event ‘9 Evenings of Theatre and Entertainment’. An arts festival explored the intersection between art and science, a deeply rooted theme throughout Gentle Monster’s new line. Futuristic, celestial designs take on traditional frames and subvert them into cyborg apparel.

For the collection's campaign, hardcore 90’s Gabber (a subgenre of techno) was a huge inspiration. Dutch photographer Ari Versluis explores this theme through Hakken dancers in the stereotypical Gabber uniform, tracksuits, and bald heads. The term Gabber originates from the Dutch slang for ‘brother,’ which is depicted perfectly through the campaign's playfulness and the connection between dancers.

Berlin-based DJ Gabber Eleganza produced the visceral hardstyle soundtrack. So, it’s no surprise that at the center of the drop, the TECHNO-01, a metallic, sharp, and star-cladded collaboration with THUG CLUB, is gaining the most traction.

The collection speaks for the brand's audacious and unapologetic attitude, and it will be online, and the shop in Seoul will be launched on April 28th, just in time for the festival season.
