How Flip Flops Became My Summer Shoe Obsession

I haven't reached for a different shoe in weeks!

One thing I never thought I'd see welcomed back into fashion with open arms was flip flops. I have a vivid memory from early childhood of begging my parents to buy me a pair of horrific chunky flip flops from a gift shop opposite the beach while we were on holiday. Of course, they gave in, but the shoes lasted about five minutes before giving me terrible blisters—enough pain to make me think I'd be sworn off flip flops for life.

However, after seeing them styled all over Pinterest, I decided to give them a second chance. They’re now a summer wardrobe staple (and way more comfortable than I remember)!

Now that I'm finally getting over my fear of having my feet exposed in public, I genuinely think I've worn flip flops more in the last three months than in the rest of my life combined. Recently, I've been loving pairing fun, colorful pedicures with a basic pair of flip flops and jeans.

Instead of being reserved for the beach, flip flops have made their way into city fashion. Everyone on social media is wearing them casually—whether that's with jeans, jorts, skirts, or dresses—rather than keeping them hidden away in a suitcase for their next beach trip. Think Keira Knightley in the early 2000s; her casual everyday looks were often paired with flip flops.

My favorite way to style my favorite Havaianas is with a pair of white linen trousers and a floaty, summery top. It's such a simple, comfortable outfit, but it looks elevated and effortlessly cool.
