FKA twigs and On: Where Movement Meets Art

Redefining activewear: the Body Is Art campaign blends strength and creativity.

POSTED BY JENNY HALONEN
What happens when performance and artistry collide? FKA twigs and Swiss sportswear brand On might have the answer with The Body Is Art, Part II, part of On's Spring/Summer 25 Training collection.

Exercise has long been seen as just about physical performance. But for twigs, it’s always been more than that. In her vision, movement isn’t just about getting fit — it’s a form of self-expression, a way to push boundaries and explore new forms of strength. The Body Is Art redefines training as a dynamic, living art form, where the body becomes a canvas for creativity and transformation.

But here's the question: Is the gym ready for this kind of reinvention? As we watch twigs in a striking new campaign, shot by photographer Jordan Hemingway, the setting itself — an industrial London warehouse — feels like a stage. The choreography is fluid, intense, and sculptural, pushing the body as both an instrument of power and expression. Alongside twigs, collaborators like Paralympic athlete Léa Bayekula, bodybuilder Michelle Mensah, and dancer Nana Yaa bring their own unique energy, embodying the concept that strength is just as much about artistry as it is about performance.

"I’m drawn to bodies that do something," twigs says. "Strength becomes art. It’s about pushing boundaries and celebrating what the body can do." It's a bold statement — one that challenges the conventional view of training as mere exercise.

The Collection: Performance with a Side of Style

So, let’s talk about the collection itself. On’s Spring/Summer 25 Training pieces merge technical performance with a certain aesthetic sharpness that feels almost too sleek for a workout. Twigs wears the Studio Cut Out Crop paired with tights and Cloud X 4 sneakers, both emphasizing a streamlined silhouette that looks as good on the treadmill as it does out on the street. The Train 2-in-1 Crop with Train Shorts and Cloudnova X sneakers is another standout — a mix of comfort and freedom, designed to move with you.
The campaign doesn’t just stop with twigs, though. Bayekula brings fierce power to the Studio Tank and Tights, Mensah flexes in the Cloud X 4 sneakers, and Nana Yaa embodies fluidity in the Train Bra and Open Back Crop. It’s clear these pieces are as much about performance as they are about making a statement.

The Future of Activewear

As high fashion and sportswear continue to merge, activewear is evolving. It's no longer about flashy designer names or the latest trends. Today, success lies in finding the perfect synergy between brand and collaborator — blending innovative design, high-quality materials, and performance-driven functionality in a way that balances style with substance.

It’s not enough to team up with a big-name artist or celebrity. The real magic happens when movement, design, and innovation align seamlessly. The future of activewear is about pushing boundaries — crafting pieces that are as functional as they are artistic, and as innovative as they are stylish.

FKA twigs and On embody this shift, seamlessly blending athleticism, creativity, and cutting-edge tech. While this may not be the first fusion of fashion and sport, it’s certainly one that takes the concept to new heights.
