Taking care of your wellbeing during quarantine can be tough. Of course, social distancing is vital to help slow the spread of the coronavirus, but that doesn’t make self-isolation any easier. Typical day to day life is on hold right now, and that means no trips to the gym, no socializing with friends, and no leaving the house for work each day.

This disruption to your regular routine may not be a welcome situation, but it does provide you with an opportunity to focus on yourself and take some time for self-care. Being inside the house all day, every day can be difficult. This makes it crucial to pay special attention to your health and wellbeing at this time and to find ways to be kind to yourself. Many people are finding quarantine tough, so finding some calm amid all this craziness in the outside world is vital at the moment.

Nourish Yourself

While it may be tempting to spend quarantine munching on cookies and chips, these aren’t going to help you to feel good in the long term. Too much high fat, high sugar food can leave you feeling sluggish and tired. To feel energized and healthy, you need to eat right. Of course, the odd snack is fine, everyone needs their cookie fix now and again, but overindulging too often can affect both your mood and your health.

Quarantine is the perfect time to get creative in the kitchen and put together some super tasty, nutritious meals. From superfood salads, through to scrummy smoothies, there are loads of nutrient-packed creations that you can whip up at home to enjoy during self-isolation.

Build Your Strength

Hitting the gym may be out of the question right now, but that doesn’t mean that you can’t work on building your strength at home. Yoga is the ideal exercise to complete at home because it has so many benefits to both your physical health and mental wellbeing.

Being physically active can have a really positive impact on your mood, releasing all those feel-good hormones and leaving you feeling refreshed. When you are spending so much time indoors, it feels amazing to be able to stretch out and move your body. Yoga is an excellent way to stretch out your muscles and release any tension that you are carrying. While many people think of yoga as being just about stretching, it is an excellent exercise for building strength too. Practicing yoga each day is a fantastic hobby for when you are spending so much time indoors, as it enables you to focus your mind, build your strength, and improve your level of skill and technique. Practicing regularly will help you to reap the full benefits of yoga. If you want to challenge yourself, you may want to aim for completing a more complicated pose and work to build strength for a headstand as part of your daily practice.

Stay in the Moment

The pandemic is something that has left many people feeling anxious and unsettled. This is entirely understandable, as these are unprecedented times. There are a few methods that you can use to help to feel calmer about the situation.

Mindfulness is an incredibly useful tool even when life is normal, and right now, it is more useful than ever during these uncertain times. Mindfulness is all about connecting with the present moment and not getting caught up with thinking about the past and future. This moment is the only one that you can control, and this realization is a powerful one. Letting go of those endless thoughts about ow life will be in the future, and instead concentrating on what is happening right now gives you back control, and help you to feel at peace with your life as it is right now.

Being at home, and out of your routine can cause your mind to race with the same thoughts going around and around. Rumination is rarely useful and can really impact on your mood. Mindfulness is an excellent way to bring some calm into every moment, as you can simply let your thoughts come and go without becoming caught up in them. Mindfulness takes some learning, but with practice, it will become second nature to you, and bring some much-needed calm into your life.

Relax

These uncertain times call for kindness, not just to other people but to yourself too. Try not to put yourself under unnecessary pressure; instead, treat yourself with kindness and use this time for nurturing yourself.
