What's The Deal With Fendi's Appropriated FILA Heritage Logo?
Copy or collab?
We've seen our fair share of high-fashion sportswear, but when Karl Lagerfeld showed his Fendi Fall/Winter 2018 collection, unmistakably morphing the Fendi logo with FILA's, we have to say we were caught by surprise.
The “re-appropriated” FILA logo was designed by artist Hey Reilly, who said in an Instagram post that she was “so happy that some of my work – that was made in the spirit of fun for lols likes and sharing – should end up in the real world being seen by Karl Lagerfeld let alone made part of the @fendi collection.” It just goes to show that anything is possible when you put your heart and soul into it.
As well as being overlaid onto a signature interlocking 'F' Fendi bag, the logo was emblazoned on sweaters and teamed up with blazers, coats and bright matching boots. We're obsessed.
Although FILA did take to Twitter to share some pictures from the show, with the caption “@Fendi x FILA #FendiFW18 #FILAHeritage,” there are no details on the sportswear brand's involvement. As yet, Fendi has made no explicit mention of FILA in any of its social media posts. But, if you ask us, there's no chance that Fendi could simply waltz in and steal such an iconic logo. A commentary on fashion's copycat culture, perhaps?
What do you think of the “collaboration”? Let us know in the comments.
