Fendi’s Ode To “Orlando”
Kim Jones drops a new limited-edition capsule collection.
Inspired by Viriginia Woolf’s “Orlando”, the Fendi limited-edition capsule collection rejects the societal confines of gender and traditional silhouettes. Flowing shapeless gowns and structured, tailored, suits make up the collection and immerse you in the romance of Woolf’s imagined non-conforming world. The collection attempts to convey Woolf’s own rejection of the societal confines of gender classification—that which was seen in her participation in intellectual society, the Bloomsbury Group, where women lived, dressed and acted without adhering to gender stereotypes.
Sharp, tailored suits, with structured, dystopian, pussy-bow collars create striking modern-vintage silhouettes. Dresses such as the one modelled on Bella Hadid, are long, flowing, shapeless and almost ancient Grecian. Bella is Fendi’s Aphrodite. However, Bella’s second outfit, a take on the LBD, hints that Kim Jones’s inspiration is both vintage, classic, and very 20th Century. This black silk number with the twisted-rose knot and capped sleeves has elements of iconic outlines from both the ‘20s and the ‘90s. In this limited-edition collection, Fendi creates a time capsule that resonates with all societal movements and moments.
Vintage-esq pearls decorate the ageless line. Soft knee-high boots come with embellished pearl “F” signs and limited-edition versions of the Peekaboo and Baguette bags are decorated the same. More accessories include huge droplet pearl earrings which contrast with minimalistic ear cuffs – this collection is for the bold and the demure, the loud and the quiet, the structured and the whimsical.
This versatile, non-conforming collection is limited-edition and only available for two weeks starting from April 15th.. The collection is also exclusive to only nine locations across the globe and can be found at stores in the Miami Design District, Beverly Hills Rodeo, London, Paris, Seoul, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Shanghai, and Beijing.
