If you are getting married soon, then you will know how satisfying this can be. You may feel as though you have your whole married life ahead of you and that you just can’t wait to crack on with planning your wedding. Although this is great, one thing to take note of is that there are some elements that you can DIY when it comes to your wedding, and by doing so, you will soon find that you can save a substantial amount of money.

Visit Thrift Stores

One of the first things you can do is take the time to visit a thrift store. When you do, you may find that there is a ton of unwanted decor that you can use to your advantage.  Unwanted decor gets thrown out all of the time and not only is it a waste of money, it’s a waste of good materials too. If you can source things here then you may find that you are presented with a range of table settings and furniture. You may also find a lot of artwork that you can do something with, as a way to decorate your venue. Make sure that you take into account the fact that you can spray paint any old table decor and bring it back to life and that if something is broken, there’s probably a really easy fix for that.

Lighting

Another thing you can DIY when it comes to your wedding is the lighting. Wedding lighting will help people to see where they are going and it also means you can keep the party going, even as the sun sets. There are many options when it comes to your lighting and you can do it all yourself too. If you want the perfect ambience then uplighting is the way to go. Find some lights and place them on the floor, facing upwards. Many venues will give you the option to do this but a lot of the time, it will cost you a substantial amount. You may even find that you can get spotlights. You can put a new film over the lens and this is a great way for you to upcycle things for your wedding day. Twinkle lights can also be repaired if you find them at a thrift store or on the Facebook marketplace, as a way to keep things cheap. You can use these to represent the starry night by hanging them from your ceiling, or you can have them going from tree to tree, to try and create a nice ambience.

Lanterns also look stunning, if you are using them in a tropical setting. They are also very budget-friendly. If you are afraid of having an open flame then believe it or not, you can use flameless tealights and add some strips of cloth to the lantern to make them look even better. This is a fantastic way for you to get the look you are going for while keeping that intimate glow.

DIY your Own Benches

If you have nowhere for the guests to sit, then why not DIY your own benches? Using a cordless drill, you can use spare pieces of wood to create rustic seating options. You can also make your own gazebo if you want, as a way to bring your outdoor space together. By doing this, you will find that it is easier than ever for you to go for a rustic look without going over your wedding budget. If you do want to make the most out of your seating then make sure that you consider the joints on the benches and how they are going to come together. The last thing you want is for your guests to go through the seating you have made because you did not account for the total weight of every person.

Your Wedding Dress

Did you know that it is also possible for you to make your own wedding dress? When you look into things like this, you will notice that you can save thousands while creating something unique that really makes you feel special on the day. You don't need to be a tailor to do this either. If you have found a dress that you quite like but you know that it is far too big for you then you can take it in a little bit by watching a few YouTube videos. You can also try and experiment by taking a dress and adding your own elements to it. If you are stuck here then you can always take it to a tailor to make these kinds of adjustments, and when you do, you can feel confident knowing that they will make all of the changes you need. When you do this, you will also find that it is substantially cheaper than going out and buying your dress too.

Wedding Favors

If you intend to hand out wedding favors then you can easily DIY these yourself too. So many people create their own wedding favors and when you do, you will soon find that there are numerous ways that you can get the result you want out of your big day. You can buy printed boxes on sites like eBay and then fill them up with sugared almonds or pieces of cake. You can also buy your stickers online with your and your partner’s names on them as a way of personalizing what you have. Add in some nice silk bags to keep your wedding cake crumbs contained and you will soon find that you have stunning wedding favor boxes that end up making a long-lasting impression on your guests.

So as you can see, it’s more than possible for you to DIY your own wedding, and when you do, you will notice that your day is a bit more special overall. It’s also a great way for you to customize your wedding, so you can have the experience you’re looking for without breaking the bank.
