Walt Disney World Agrees To Vaccination Mandate
The COVID-19 jab will now be required for most unionized employees.
The news comes after cases have skyrocketed in the US, with Florida being severely affected. The mandate has stated that all employees represented by the Service Trades Council Union (STCU) must show proof of vaccination by October 22nd. STCU is the largest union associated with Disney, representing over 30,000 Disney cast members.
A spokesperson for Disney told CNN Business, “we put the safety of our Cast Members at the forefront of our health and safety protocols” and “getting the vaccine is the best way to protect each other”.
While a deal has not yet been finalized with all of Disney’s union members - discussions are ongoing. The agreement includes all types of cast members that guests come into contact with, such as ride operators, performers, and service workers.
However, the global company has assured staff that those with medical conditions or “sincerely held” religious beliefs will be exempt.
To encourage the vaccination roll out, Disney will host on-site vaccine stations in the upcoming weeks.
