Disney Villain Outfit Inspiration
Why Ursula, Cruella de Vil And Maleficent are fashion icons.
Amongst many other young girls, I used to dream of dressing like a Disney princess. I imagined opening my wardrobe and being greeted with shades of pastel blues or purples, draping myself in their flowing and delicate materials.
Then, I got older. My naivety and innocence began to fade away, and I started becoming more interested in the dress sense of Disney’s villains. I began to harmonise more with their bolder looks. Perhaps I began to see them less as intimidating, and more as inspiring (from a fashion perspective, of course...).
Three villains, in particular, inspired me: The Little Mermaid’s Ursula, One Hundred and One Dalmatians’ Cruella de Vil, and Sleeping Beauty’s Maleficent.

Ursula
Okay, yes, Ursula is a bit of an aquatic psychopath. But you can not deny her fierce look.
80s azure blue eyeshadow paired with hot pink nails and lips screams iconic, and her conch shell necklace is a classic staple of 60s, 70s, 90s and 2025 jewellery.
And of course, her strapless black dress reminds me of Kim Kardashian’s body-hugging dresses, spruced up with a flare of punk rock.

Cruella de Vil
What I love most about Cruella de Vil is her extravagance. She is not afraid to be a diva; in fact, she thrives off of it.
Her pops of crimson red and emerald green eye shadow iconically clash with her black and white base, highlighting the perfect balance between simplicity and eccentricity, especially Emma Stone’s portrayal where her black and white hair has been exaggeratedly puffed up.

Maleficent
Last, but certainly not least, Maleficent.
A game changer for me was Angelina Jolie’s portrayal of Maleficent. Her black choker and flared collar draw attention to her neckline, and her cherry lips make her such a seductive villain.
Her most beautiful feature has to be her horns. There is such a majestic allure to them, making Maleficent embody a beautiful cross between angel and devil.
Villainous Fashion Inspirations for the Future
So, I wonder what Disney’s villains offer us next?
I don’t know about you, but when watching the live action of Tangled in 2027, I will be focusing more on the costume design for Mother Gothel than Rapunzel…
Maybe the princesses get the fairytale endings, but the villains always get the best wardrobes. Below, Fizzypicks inspired by Disney’s most fashionable troublemakers.
