Firstly, thank you so much for taking time out to answer my questions! For those who aren’t familiar with the brand, who are Swole Panda?
Swole Panda is a sustainable accessories brand that specializes in creating premium-quality products using bamboo and other pioneering upcycled materials including REPREVE and REFIBRA. We are dedicated to crafting stylish and eco-friendly accessories such as socks, belts scarves, and boxers for both men and women. Our brand combines modern design with sustainable materials to offer fashionable and ethical choices to conscious consumers.
How did the idea Swole Panda come about?
The idea for Swole Panda originated when James and I saw there was a gap in the market for bright, colorful, high-quality accessories that combined sustainability. We recognized the environmental challenges posed by conventional materials used in accessories and saw an opportunity to introduce bamboo and recycled materials as a sustainable alternative. The versatility and sustainability of bamboo, coupled with its luxurious feel, inspired the creation of Swole Panda, starting with the launch of our range of bamboo socks in 2017.
What made you want to focus on sustainable accessories, such as your bamboo range of socks, scarves, and boxers? And why is using sustainable materials, like bamboo, crucial for the future of fashion?
At Swole Panda, we believe that sustainability should be at the core of every business decision. By focusing on sustainable accessories, we aim to address the environmental issues associated with traditional materials used in fashion. Bamboo, in particular, is a crucial material for the future of fashion due to its numerous benefits.
Bamboo is one of the fastest-growing plants on the planet, requiring minimal water and no pesticides or fertilizers. It is also naturally anti-bacterial, hypoallergenic, and incredibly soft. By using bamboo, we can create products that are not only environmentally friendly but also offer superior comfort and durability.
Finding sustainable clothing alternatives is becoming increasingly accessible, how has the sustainable market changed over the years since Swole Panda launched? – have you noticed a positive change at all?
Since Swole Panda launched, we have witnessed a significant shift in consumer awareness and demand for sustainable products. The sustainable market has expanded, and consumers are now more conscious of the environmental impact of their fashion choices.
This has led to a surge in sustainable fashion brands, as well as a broader range of eco-friendly materials being used in the industry. We have noticed a positive change in terms of greater acceptance and adoption of sustainable alternatives. More consumers are actively seeking out brands like Swole Panda that align with their values, which is encouraging for the future of sustainable fashion.
I love the inclusivity of your products – that all genders have an option available! Was this something that was always important for you to provide? If yes, why?
Absolutely! Inclusivity has been a fundamental aspect of our brand since its inception. We believe that sustainability and inclusivity go hand in hand. Everyone should have access to eco-friendly and ethically made products regardless of their gender.

It’s amazing that your products come in biodegradable packaging! There are some – but not a lot – of biodegradable packaging in stores. Why do you think companies aren’t making that vital change in packaging, like yourselves?
While we have made it a priority to use biodegradable packaging, we understand that not all companies have made the same commitment. There are several reasons why some companies might be hesitant to switch to biodegradable packaging.
Firstly, there may be concerns about the cost and availability of sustainable packaging options. Biodegradable materials can sometimes be more expensive or less readily accessible than conventional alternatives.
Additionally, companies may be hesitant to change established packaging systems or fear potential customer reactions to new packaging designs. However, we believe that as consumer demand for sustainability grows, more companies will recognize the importance of adopting eco-friendly packaging and make the necessary changes.
Finally, where do you see the fashion industry in 10 years? Do you believe sustainable clothing brands, like Swole Panda, will become the forefront of fashion?
In the next ten years, we envision the fashion industry undergoing a significant transformation towards sustainability. The growing awareness and concern for environmental and social issues will continue to drive this change. Sustainable clothing brands, like Swole Panda, will likely play a vital role in shaping the future of fashion.
