Converse Collaborates With LA Boutique Union To Honour Interior Designer Shelia Bridges
Chucks take a trip to Victorian times.
Union Los-Angeles have linked up with Converse to create a new design for the classic Chuck Taylor High sneaker which honours interior designs from NYC-based Shelia Bridges. Often known for her distinct Harlem Toile designs which began as a wallcovering, Bridges later expanded this into fabrics, bedding and glassware, and it’s become a highly featured pattern in New York and France’s Museums.
This design represents stereotypes that are woven into being an African American living in Harlem, but with a late 1700s take. Bridges writes on her website, “I have always been intrigued and inspired by the historical narrative of the decorative arts, especially traditional French Toile.” This design fixates on the culturally significant neighbourhood through a Victorian style filter, repurposed onto the classic canvas Chuck. This is a celebration of interior design, African American culture and artistry.
Converse X Union LA X Harlem Toile chucks with a pullover hoodie and bucket hat will be available 13 October via Converse.com.
