What Is ‘Classy, Cool Girl’ Style And How Can You Get It?

An introduction to Old Money’s more casual sister.

POSTED BY SYDNEY YEAGER

If you love Gossip Girl, Sex and the City, and the Old Money Aesthetic but you wouldn’t identify your style as ‘coquette’ or old Money Core, this style is for you. The look focuses on taking classically elegant items such as shift dresses, trousers, and even button-downs–but styling them in a way that’s both fun and trendy. Think of it as the Old Money’s Step-sister. She joined the family and loves the look, but she’s not willing to lose her personality by only wearing neutrals, tweed sets, and boxy silhouettes that take away her femininity. She’s a girly girl that loves colors, and details such as bows, feathers, and glitter. Does this sound like you? Scroll to find the fashion tips the Classy + Cool girl is loving.

1. Own a button-down, but embrace the casual t-shirt

A button-down is what you’ll often see when scrolling for advice for getting the ‘old money look’ on social media. However, for most younger girls that’s not something necessarily attainable or comfortable. A button-down can feel a bit stuffy, and while it’s good to own at least one, swap the daily button-down for a quality t-shirt that you can put a cute jacket or cardigan over.

2. Comfortable jeans are everything

Just because Old Money girls are wearing trousers, skirts and long dresses doesn’t mean you have to. While each is an excellent item to own, a good pair of jeans can be dressed up or down and is much easier for daily wear.

3. Don’t be afraid of colors and details

Don’t assume that basics need to be neutrals. Charlotte York is an excellent example of the Classy + Cool girl look, and she had an incredible repertoire of basics but they weren’t all just blacks, whites, beiges, and navy hues. She often played with pinks, greens, and even reds. Don’t be afraid to wear the colors that look good on you. Along with that, the coolest outfits have some detail to them. Add in some feminine details such as lace, sequins, feathers, or bows for the ultimate look.

4. Always dress like you’re on vacation

Do you ever notice that when you’re on vacation, you tend to dress better? Maybe it’s because of the photos, but it’s also because you care a little more in a new place than in daily life. Take that vacation energy to your closet tomorrow morning and get dressed like you’re visiting a new city.

5. Keep with the basics, play with accessories

Basics will make a wardrobe go around, try to incorporate as many good quality ones in your closet as you can. But when it comes to trying to keep up with the trends it’s best to get some trendier accessories to show you’re on the fashion game. This will save you money and keep your style refreshed.
