Class Looks That Actually Make Your Day Better

When I was little, and still to this day, if I’m being completely honest, I would panic over picking out an outfit in the morning. Destroying my room, tearing through each drawer, just to find the perfect outfit that I would later ruin on the playground. 

My mom used to tell me, “You’re going to school, not a fashion show.” But with nowhere else to go, school was, and is still, my runway. 

Now that I’m in college, it would be so easy to roll out of bed and show up to my 8 a.m. class in pajamas. But once class ends and campus is swarmed with students, I’d feel internally embarrassed knowing I had just presented my most unhinged version of myself to the entire school.

Especially since studying abroad in Europe (where wearing sweats would be the ultimate form of embarrassment), jeans have taken the place of sweatpants as my default choice to start any outfit. 

As a second-semester junior, preparing for the terrifying “real world,” I’ve started putting effort into my class appearance and practicing for when sluggish clothes simply won’t cut it. 

It could be as basic as a white tee under my sweater or choosing ballet flats over sneakers, but the bottom line is that looking, at least somewhat, presentable in class is essential to our day’s outcome. 

If you’re not a morning person, pick out your clothes the night before or organize your closet so everything’s easily accessible. Make sure you have go-to class pieces that you know are both comfy and stylish. Once you get in the habit of dressing up for class, you will never want to go back.
