Chappell Roan On Setting Boundaries With Her Fans

Admiration is great, entitlement isn’t.

Chappell Roan says speaking out about toxic fan entitlement has created a “force field” around her. On the latest Call Her Daddy episode, she told Alex Cooper that setting clear boundaries has helped her navigate fame while maintaining personal space.

She emphasized that the issue isn’t about rejecting fan appreciation but rather about drawing the line when admiration turns invasive. She recalled moments when people felt entitled to her time and space, even in personal settings. “It’s not that I don’t love my fans—I do,” she said. “But there’s a difference between supporting someone and treating them like they owe you constant access to their life.” By setting firm boundaries, she’s found a way to enjoy her success without feeling constantly on edge.

“I think I made a big enough deal about not talking to me that people do not talk to me,” Roan said, adding that fellow artists have noticed how fans keep their distance when she’s around. She encourages other artists to set similar boundaries, saying it’s key to avoiding uncomfortable interactions.

While she acknowledges it “hurts” to address such behavior, she dismissed claims that she’s just “complaining about success.” “I’m just complaining about creepy behavior,” she clarified. “Admiration is great—entitlement isn’t.”
