Watch: New Trailer for Celine Sciamma's 'Petite Maman'
Sciamma is back to break our hearts all over again!
MUBI have just dropped the trailer Petite Maman, the newest feature from acclaimed French screenwriter and director Celine Sciamma. Film lovers remember her as the vision behind Portrait of a Lady on Fire (2019), Girlhood (2014), Tomboy (2011) and Water Lilies (2007).
The film is set to follow two young girls and their friendship from childhood into adulthood, who meet while Nelly (Josephine Sanz) is faced with the grim task of cleaning out the house of her newly-deceased grandmother. Sciamma has built an immense reputation and following for her intimate and visionary depictions of adolescence and relationships between queer women and it's clear that 'Petite Maman' is grounded within the same world.
The film is hotly anticipated and received rave reviews following its world premiere at the Berlin International Film Festival. Portrait of a Lady on Fire took both the gongs for Best Screenplay and the Queer Palm at the Cannes Film Festival in 2019 and was nominated for several César prizes. Many will remember this as the year Sciamma and the film’s star Adele Hanael bravely walked out of the French Oscar’s for their awarding of the prize to to sex offender Roman Polanski.
The film is set to be released in the UK and Europe on November 29th, getting both a theatrical release and a digital release on the arthouse streaming service MUBI. Also starring in the film are French actors Nina Meurisse, Stephanie Varupenne and Margot Abascal. You can view the trailer above.
