Carrie Baxter Draws Inspirations From People Around Her
Her EP ‘What Now’ talks about friendship, love and... Irish accent.
She blends different genres and different emotions, she talks about her own experiences but she is also inspired by her friends and her environment. Carrie Baxter, Irish-born and London-based vocalist, and songwriter, has just released her second EP, entitled ‘What Now.’ The 8-track project is a step forward in her musical career.
This is how Carrie explains the shift in her style. ‘My first EP, ‘Placebo’ was very much written in the first person and was quite a cathartic experience, whereas ‘What Now’ is much more collaborative and some of the songs on there are not about my life, per se.’ She also shares that the outro is her personal favorite. ‘It’s a nod to my home city of Waterford and our gorgeous, albeit very strong accent,’ she laughs.
Her EP features songs that we previously covered, ‘Something In The Water,’ an ode to drunken regret, and ‘You’, written for a friend experiencing a long-distant love. The third installment, ‘Rose’, tells the story of friends-turned-lovers-turned-friends-again, which feels like a ‘late-night diary entry.’ ‘I wanted it to be very intimate and reminiscent of nostalgic moments between the two people. It was important for me to make the song chilled but have a very sexy edge to, evoking a sense of forbidden lovers.’
To celebrate the release of her EP, Carrie played a gig at Peckham Audio in London. But it wasn’t her last performance. She’s going on tour around the UK and Ireland, stopping in Dublin, Birmingham, Manchester, and Glasgow.
