Faux Fur & The Female Alpha: A look At Fur Taking Over Fall/Winter Collections
Chloé, Simone Rocha, Gucci and Prada lead the pack.
The fur resurgence is here—thankfully, faux this time. Traditionally a status symbol of power and wealth, fur is back with a new message: the female alpha. There has been a correlation between many Autumn/Winter collections this year, where fur is used to emphasise the fierce, primal nature of femininity, letting fur speak for primal elegance and power.
Here are some examples of fashion houses that are using fur this year as a visual narrative device to redefine femininity.
Chloé
Autumn/Winter 2025
“Chloé embodies a unique balance of soft strength, blending natural femininity, sensuality, and lightness with independence and freedom.”—Chemena Kamali
Binary opposites are at play with Chemena Kamali’s Winter 2025 THE EVOLUTION COLLECTION. Contradictions are elevated, using conflicting materials like fur and sheer fabrics. Fur is at play throughout the collection, whether in a stole, bags, jacket sleeves, or trim. A standout look from this collection is Look 14, which features a romantic, floaty style, lace-trimmed clay pink dress, mauve suede platform shoes, chunky antique copper-style jewelry, a small kiss-lock bag, and a fur stole. The stole is the statement piece of the look with decorative hanging fur tassels attached with gold hardware chains. It looks like an heirloom piece, with a history; the scarf and dress united are the embodiment of an antique shop—dusty, stuffy, but still sensual. The inclusion of the chain attachment adds an element of movement, like the hyper-romantic dress; this makes these two opposite materials move in harmony.
Simone Rocha
Fall 2025 Ready-To-Wear
“Past, present, presence, pretend, The Tortoise & The Hare.”
In February, Simone Rocha debuted her Fall 2025 Ready-To-Wear collection, opening the stage with the words “Past, present, presence, pretend, The Tortoise & The Hare," a statement that echoed throughout the collection and her career. Rocha has explained the slow and steady tortoise-like approach she took to growing her career and her own label, and the elements of her life that influenced her design and her past work, which were sewn into her Fall collection.
Fur is featured in numerous looks of this collection, be that faux fur footwear, a faux fur bralette top (worn by Alexa Chung)
To represent the hare in the infamous fable literally, many of Rocha’s looks featured a faux hare hanging over the shoulder of the models—perhaps this represents Rocha killing the hare and the hasty approach it represents, stating that eventually, the tortoise is victorious and claims the hare as her prize.
Many of the traditional hyper-feminine details of Rocha’s classic style remain in the collection, and this, combined with the animalistic fur, creates a strength to the softness of the look. The alpha female is still girly.
Gucci
Fall 2025 Ready-To-Wear
In both Gucci women's and men's lines, eclectic and frumpy is the new chic. Gucci’s fall line pairs items that shouldn’t go together but somehow work. The popular neutral shades of brown and grey of the season remain prominent in Gucci’s collection, but refreshingly, Gucci’s token pops of vibrant greens and purples were etched through the runway. Look 01 of the line featured these authentic Gucci colours, including a plunging purple lace top, green pointed heels, a yellow bag, a wool grey midi skirt, and a luxurious brown fur coat, the perfect mismatched look.
Prada
Fall 2025 Ready-To-Wear
Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons’ collection, which debuted in February, aimed to discuss what femininity means and how it can be defined. So, it is interesting that when a debate on femininity is on the runway, so is fur.
The collection primarily focused on shifting the silhouettes of the garments, resulting in a shapeless look that challenged conventional beauty standards. The overall aesthetic of the collection was minimalist and simple, which effectively showcased the power of simple beauty. A standout is Look 8: a stunning statement fur coat and understated beige pointed-toe heels. By having no additional adornments, the fur was elevated as the focal point of the look. If fur and femininity serve as the thematic core of this look, it reinforces the strong connection between the two. The collection strips the beauty standard back to the primal matriarch.
Final Thought
It's clear that to the fashion world today, fur isn’t about being practical and warm; it is a statement. Mixing fur with traditionally hyper-feminine fabrics is the combination of the moment; faux fur goes with anything. This season invites us to stay stylish while embracing our own feral nature — bold, wild, and completely unapologetic.
