A Hollywood romance.

Brenda Song and Macaulay Culkin’s love story didn’t start with a grand romance—in fact, she initially thought it would be nothing more than a short-lived fling.

During a recent appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show to promote her Netflix film Running Point, Song opened up about how she and Culkin met. The couple, who have been together since 2017 and share two sons, Dakota (3) and Carson (2), first crossed paths through mutual friend Seth Green. However, their first interaction didn’t exactly spark instant chemistry.

From Fling to Lasting Love

Recalling their introduction, Song admitted that she wasn’t initially fond of Culkin. After the cancellation of a show she worked on, Culkin tried to joke about it, which didn’t sit well with her. “I didn’t like him at first,” she admitted, revealing that he awkwardly “backed out of the room” after the joke fell flat.

Things changed when they were both cast in Changeland, a film shot in Thailand. While she thought they’d just become best friends, she soon developed a crush—which she figured would turn into a brief romance. “And then I thought I was going to have my first fling, and that fling has turned into almost eight years and two kids,” she shared.

After returning to Los Angeles, Song expected their connection to fizzle out, but instead, it only deepened. Culkin proposed in 2022, and while they considered eloping, they ultimately didn’t want to disappoint Song’s mother.

Now, nearly a decade later, what started as a playful crush has blossomed into a family and a lasting partnership—proving that sometimes, love has its own plans.
