BONBOM F/W 2025: Workwear Reimagined

Parisian firefighters & vintage Carhartt.

POSTED BY ZOE TYLER

Renowned for its innovative approach to silhouettes, BONBOM seamlessly blends avant-garde design with the meticulous craftsmanship of classic tailoring. This season, the brand reimagines traditional forms to craft a bold, forward-thinking collection, transforming fantasy into reality.

Inspiration & Concept

The foundation of this season’s collection stems from two primary influences. First, the uniforms of Parisian firefighters (Sapeurs-Pompiers), which captivated BONBOM’s founder, Jo, during a work trip to France. As an outsider, he found the city’s various professional uniforms—from government workers to transit employees, repairmen, and police—particularly striking. However, it was the firefighters' attire, with its red horizontal chest stripes and cargo-detailed pants, that stood out as especially chic.

The second influence derives from Jo’s personal archive of Carhartt workwear, a collection he has been curating since his university days. As a designer deeply involved in pattern cutting and sewing, he has always appreciated Carhartt’s versatility. As the Y2K aesthetic fades from the fashion spotlight, BONBOM sees this as the perfect moment to reinterpret workwear through a fresh lens. By merging the cargo elements and tech-wear sportiness of firefighter uniforms with the refined utility of vintage Carhartt pieces, the brand introduces a distinctive new aesthetic.

Design & Craftsmanship

For the FALL/WINTER 2025-26 collection, BONBOM reworks essential workwear staples, including Carhartt aprons, overalls, work shirts, carpenter pants, and jackets. The brand draws deep inspiration from the way carpenters dress out of necessity, carefully researching their attire and functionality. Iconic pieces such as Detroit jackets, work jeans, aprons, overalls (dungarees), and wrap skirts have been reimagined with practical pockets designed to hold tools like tape measures, wooden rulers, and drills.

The collection features cargo pants, bomber jackets, multi-pocket utility vests, tapered ankle designs to prevent snagging, slim-fit thermal underwear (loungewear), beanies, distressed denim hems, sweat-stained effects, backpacks, belt loops, and hanging straps. By merging the rustic, vintage appeal of workwear with BONBOM’s signature structured silhouettes, the collection offers a fresh perspective on contemporary design.

Materials & Aesthetic

Incorporating elements from carpenter culture, BONBOM has extended its focus beyond clothing. Observing that carpenters frequently carry backpacks and wear comfortable sneakers, the collection integrates backpack materials and sneaker detailing throughout. The connection between buckle-wrapped backpacks and the fetishistic allure of body-hugging harnesses is further explored, revealing a subtle yet deliberate nod to fetish aesthetics. Similarly, the structural elements of sneakers—such as foot-wrapping straps and lace threading through eyelets—are juxtaposed with the corsetry and historical lingerie references, emphasizing the intersection of function and fashion.

A predominantly black color palette dominates the collection, reinforcing a sense of discipline and cohesion. The choice of technical backpack fabric as the primary garment material enhances the collection’s experimental yet wearable nature, delivering an innovative mix-and-match approach with a contemporary edge.
