Spring break is merely weeks away, with summer following close behind. And, although my spring break will be spent in the snow, I’m realizing that my swimwear inventory could use a serious refresh. Whether it's in a month or three, I’m ready to soak up the sun in a new bikini set.
Everyone wants the perfect bikini, yet nobody spills the secret—luckily, as a California girl, I’m here to help.
Right now, swimwear is in its prime. Bikini sets are fun, one-pieces are reliable, and dare I say, tankinis are taking over? The best sets always include matching swim shorts, and, whether you are wearing them as a cover-up or in the ocean, they make the simplest suits stylish.
Swimwear right now is leaning in two distinct directions: distinctly Brazilian — bold colors, higher cuts, playful tankinis — or unapologetically vintage, with structured tops, higher waists, polka dots, and silhouettes that feel pulled from a 1950s postcard.
My favorites are pieces with beads and metal details hanging from our bikini strings, making simple suits look finished. Underwire silhouettes never fail to be clean and comfortable, and stripes and polka dots are my trusty go-to prints that always resurface when swim starts leaning vintage.
If you’re still reaching for the same Gooseberry one-piece, consider this your gentle nudge. It had its moment. It was sleek, minimal, dependable. But, unfortunately, it’s time to move on.
