Belinda Bellville, Founder of Bellville Sassoon, Dies at 94

Founder of Bellville Sassoon, renowned for dressing royalty and celebrities has passed away.

Belinda Bellville, founder of high-end fashion salon Bellville Sassoon died on the 5th of May 2024 at the age of 94. 

Inspired by her Gran’s dress shop on Savile Row, Bellville opened her own fashion house named Bellville et Cie in 1953. The name was later changed to Bellville Sassoon after David Sassoon joined the house in 1958. 


Bellville was known for dressing several high-profile figures. The highest of which is the British Royal Family. She designed Princess Anne’s dress for the wedding of Queen Elizabeth II and, alongside Sassoon, created more than seventy dresses for Princess Diana over twenty years. 

Bellville Sassoon has also dressed Jackie Kennedy, Audrey Hepburn, Elizabeth Taylor, and Madonna. 

The fashion house is now run by Irish designer Lorcan Mullany and the salon is located at 18 Culford Gardens in Chelsea, London
Belinda Bellville is survived by her three daughters Victoria, Sophie, and Polly.
