Barbie Movie Promises Star-Studded Cast In New Posters

Did you strap on your rollerblades? The highly-anticipated trailer and accompanying character posters for Greta Gerwig’s Barbie are here. The eye-catching posters boast the blockbuster’s ensemble cast, while also hinting at the intrigue in the heart of Barbie Land. The countdown for Barbie has officially started, with the Lady Bird director’s new film hitting theaters July 21st.
The posters feature our leads Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling as Barbie and Ken, respectively. Alongside the pair are Ken and Barbies, featuring Sex Education alums Emma Mackey, Ncuti Gatwa, and Connor Swindells. Micheal Cera is a welcome surprise, as well as singer Dua Lipa’s role of “Mermaid Barbie.” The “Levitating” songstress will contribute multiple original songs for the film’s soundtrack.
Promising summer fun, the newly released trailer had the ensemble cast, dressed in pastel sundresses and boardshorts, rocking out in Beach Boy-esque fashion. Its star-studded cast gets a hand portraying living dolls, poking fun at the toy’s decades of history and lore. The Barbie trailer teased a “Battle of the Kens,” letting actors Ryan Gosling and Simu Liu stretch their comic legs as they hilariously duke it out.
“She’s everything. He’s just Ken,” the film’s tagline reads. Seems Barbie Land doesn’t place its Ken and Barbies on equal footing.
While the film’s plot is kept largely under wraps, viewers can expect to see Barbie and Ken break-out of their candy-colored world, and into the real one. It’s a journey of self-discovery, meant to recontextualize the doll for a new audience. Come on, Barbies!
