The only beach body inspiration we need.

Although Maye’s son Elon has been scoring headlines right left and center, his 74-year-old mother Maye has been paving ways of her own. Recently landing the swimwear cover of Sports Illustrated, the 74-year-old silver-haired model is keen to empower older women to feel comfortable and confident in their bodies.

“I’m very excited to let people know that women in their 70s are gorgeous”, she stated in a magazine interview, laughing to herself at the incredulity of having once thought that she could herself never sit atop cover held by the likes of Kim Kardashian, Elle Macpherson and Tyra Banks. Being mother to the richest man in the world is the least of Maye’s accomplishments; the Canadian-South African American has over five decades of modelling under her belt and is also an established dietitian, and she emblems the ability of women to continue their success no matter their age.

“I do think it’s going to make women feel more comfortable in their seventies when they swim, as well as women in their twenties and thirties”, Maye added.

MJ Day, editor-in-chief of Sports Illustrated Swimsuit backed her choices (Maye, Ciara, Yumi and Kim) fiercely. She advocated breaking out of the mold the world has put us, or for a better term, certain expectations and standards for feminine beauty, and is working to implement that in the magazine’s future.

“In this issue, we encourage readers to see them as we see them: multifaceted, multitalented – and sexy while they’re at it. The world may label them one way, but we want to focus our lens on all the ways they see themselves and how they own who they are. No matter your age, whether you’re a new mom, partner, sister, entertainer, athlete, entrepreneur, advocate, student, mentor, role model, leader or dreamer—or all of the above—we want to celebrate these women, their evolution and the many dimensions of who they are.”
