Applications To Go To Space With SpaceX Are Now Open

Fancy joining Elon Musk above the stars?

Since most of us have given up dreams of travelling at the moment, SpaceX's new announcement will seem worlds away – literally.

Elon Musk’s SpaceX is now taking applications to transport four civilians to go to the International Space Station this year. The lucky four will travel in the Crew Dragon spacecraft and the mission will launch from the Kennedy Space Center. This will mark the first all-civilian mission, proving once again just how far-advanced our technology is.

The mission is a joint project between Musk and Jared Isaacman, CEO of Shift4 Payments, and is titled Inspiration4. The lucky four seats are divided like this: two are being donated to members of the public (one of which is “reserved for a St. Jude ambassador with direct ties to the mission,”) by Isaacman. The remaining two will be decided by an online competition running this February.

“If we’re going to continue making advances up there in space, then we have an obligation to do the same down here on Earth,” stated the official press release. SpaceX also continued to explain that the seats will go “to crew members who will be selected to represent the mission pillars of leadership, hope, generosity, and prosperity.” Important qualities to have in case of an alien encounter.

If you feel inclined to escape Earth for a while (we don’t blame you if you do), then apply to take part here.
