Alex Porat Releases New Single ‘Taxi’
We spoke to the artist on her latest release
We all know what it’s like to be crushing on someone, the weight is unbearable and it feels as though you will never feel this way about another being. Well, Alex Porat has channelled those feelings and emotions into her new single “Taxi”.
Starting with a gentle beat, the song builds up into a singable refrain, reflected in the accompanying music video where Porat and her day start dancing along to song.
Sharing her inspiration for the song, Porat explains how she wanted to reflect on the feeling of ‘[wanting] someone but you’re dead set on never telling them how you feel so you just live your life in limbo.’
In early 2021, Porat introduced her upcoming EP “miss sick world” with the single “girlfriend”, which was followed by “dimension”, “bubblegum”, and now “taxi”.
Already a strong force in the music industry, she initially gained following by posting covers to YouTube, and now, with only a little over a year of solo releases, she’s gained 900k+ monthly Spotify listeners and 150 million total YouTube views.
The world is slowly starting to open up and we’re beginning to be able to see our favourite artists live again, including Porat herself. This November she’s embarking on a Canadian tour, starting in Victoria, BC and finishing in Toronto, ON.
We were lucky enough to speak to Porat to get more details on her upcoming tour, EP, and hear her advice to aspiring musicians!
You’re going on tour later this year, how does it feel to finally be able to go out and play to a live audience?
It doesn’t feel real yet. It probably won’t hit me until a minute before getting on stage and it’ll hit me like a brick wall I’m sure. Performing is such a rush for me and I’m counting down the days to seeing faces in a room.
You have a new EP coming out called “Miss Sick World”, what’s your favourite track off of it?
The title track! Rips my heart to pieces.
What advice would you give to aspiring musicians out there?
Practice what you love and be passionate about everything you do. Consistency and perseverance go a long way.
What would you like to achieve in the future in terms of your music career?
I want to build something I’m proud of and I want to build a career that helps change how North America sees the Asian community of musicians. There’s not enough representation and I’ve made that my motivation through it all because it feels bigger than me.
