Adidas To Feature Sustainable Fashion Designers At NYC Pop-Up

A one-day-only pop-up shop in New York City geared towards sustainable & upcycled fashion.

POSTED BY AINA JANKUNAS

In October, adidas introduced their "Choose to Give Back" program, which aims at helping to extend the lifecycle of sports performance & lifestyle apparel and footwear. In collaboration with thredUP's Resale-as-a-Service® platform, the program invites consumers to send used products from any brand back via the adidas Creator's Club app to be resold and reused.

Katja Schreiber, adidas' SVP of sustainability, explains, "We believe that great performance shouldn't come at the cost of the environment. That's why we're committed to establishing a circular future for sportswear, and with the Choose to Give Back program are helping people to see the new possibilities to give old gear new life."

In collaboration with adidas' Choose to Give Back resale program, the brand will hold a pop-up shop on Saturday, December 11 in New York City. The pop-up will offer a range of custom, vintage, and upcycled pieces from designers and creators like Ji Won Choi, Theophilio, Basketcase Gallery, Eva Joan Repair, Tyranny & Mutation, and more.

Theophilio, the 2021 CFDA American Emerging Designer of the Year, will present a seven-piece collection of patchwork hoodies, crewnecks, pants, and t-shirts inspired by adidas apparel. Theophilio designer Edvin Thompson explains, "Sustainability is instrumental in how we produce our pieces, so we are thrilled to be developing a bespoke collection made entirely of upcycled product from a brand that shares our values."

In addition to the range of clothes presented by the participating designers, The event will also feature on-site customizations and repairs by Eva Joan Repair and a live screen-printing by Basketcase Gallery.

To purchase something at the pop-up, visitors must trade in used pieces from their own closet, which will then be weighted and converted into points. Each consumer is allowed up to 10 pounds worth of used pieces and can purchase up to two items at the pop-up.

Check out the pop-up shop on Saturday, December 11 at 61 Crosby Street in NYC from 12:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. ET.
